Porridge

A stick to your ribs and fill you up meal.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup oates

  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour

  • 1/3 cup rice

  • 3 tbsp flax meal

  • 3 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • 1/3 cup seeds of your choice

  • 1/3 cup nuts of your choice

  • 1 onion

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 6 cups stock of choice

  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Dice your onion as small as you can get it and add to your largest pot. Then dice your garlic as small as possible and add this to your pot with all ingredients except for your stock.

  • Toast all of your ingredients together on medium heat for roughly 5-10 minutes, you will knows its ready when you smell the grains and seeds roasting and your onions have started to become transluscnt.

  • Add your stock and stir quickly to make sure none of your grains clump when the liquid goes in. Take this oppurtunity to add any needed salt and pepper.

  • cook this on medium heat covered, stirring often, for 20-30 minutes or until your rice has been fully cooked as the other grains will cook long before the rice will.

  • You may need to add stock to this if it is getting too thick before the rice has fully cooked. Simply add stock 1 cup at a time until your rice is cooked. You may also add more stock if you would like a thinner texture.

  • remove from the heat and let the porridge cool before serving. this pot will hold its heat for quite some time so dont burn your mouth.
